Full CG animation layered over live action eyes introduce Tarsem Singhs’, Snow White inspired feature, Mirror Mirror. The sequence draws inspiration from Japanese Noh theater, a form of classical musical drama that has been performed since the 14th century. Performers wear wooden masks to stylize and codify their facial expressions. I worked closely with Animation Director Ben Hibon to develop the character assets from his concepts and references. Then, working with a small team of character and FX animators we created Hibons’ signature fluid edit through previs into final production. The piece weaves many nuanced elements in a film that rewards repeated viewing.
