The Radar Festival pitched an open brief to a selection of tracks from indie record labels including Warp, Domino and Tummy Touch. The look of my film was inspired by my interest in David Bomberg's Vorticist paintings. Bomberg drew grids over his canvases, fragmenting each picture into geometric shapes whilst retaining the dynamic of the original scene. My intention was to create an ambiguity of form, allowing motion to reveal the subject. Once the viewer has accepted they're looking at a bird or hand, any similar moving black shape will suffice. The film has been screened internationally at festivals including SIGGRAPH, OneDotZero and Prix Ars Electronica.
